GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan’s Chief Court ousted Chief Minister Khalid Khursheed. It happened on Tuesday for having a fraudulent degree under Articles 62 and 63 of the Pakistani Constitution.
Justice Malik Inayat Ur Rehman, Justice Jauhar Ali, and Justice Mushtaq Muhammad delivered the verdict on Ghulam Shahzad Agha’s petition.
Asadullah Khan, the former CM’s lawyer, contended that the articles did not apply to GB. The complainant’s counsel informed the court that they did, and the court ruled accordingly.
Moreover, After discovering it was “fake,” the HEC withdrew the chief minister’s LLB degree equivalence letter in May.
According to The News, the commission also blacklisted his CNIC and name on its website.
“This commission approached the University of London for re-verification of your LLB degree, transcript. As well as letter of certification provided by you in a sealed envelope,” HEC wrote to the ex-CM.
While, The university disclosed that the envelope and its contents (a copy of the degree certificate, a letter of certification, and a transcript) not issued by the University of London.”
“Therefore, the HEC equivalence letter of even number dated September 23, 2022, issued to you hereby withdrawn or cancelled.”
A source told that Khursheed’s degree had noticeable differences in paper quality, embossed stamp, font, and signature compared to other verification letters issued by the same department at the University of London in the same time frame for other students.
The HEC asked the University of London to validate Khursheed’s fraudulent degree, which the university branded “fake” in an official answer.
The ex-chief minister joined the PTI in 2018 and became Diamer-Astore’s divisional president.
