Webdesk: Zubair Anjum, a producer for Geo News, taken by cops from his home in the Model Colony neighborhood of Karachi, his family said Tuesday.
Residents of Anjum’s neighborhood say that two police cars and double-cab vehicles came to his house near the intersection of Model Colony and took him away.
Wajahat Anjum, the brother of the producer, said that cops and people in plain clothes broke into their home with guns and roughed up family members. The reason for the arrest, on the other hand, is still unknown.
“They asked for Zubair bhai, and at gunpoint, they took him away. They also took his cell phone,” he said to describe what happened.
He also said that the people who worked on the CCTV in Anjum’s neighborhood took away the digital video recorder (DVR).
Anjum’s brother talked to reporters about what happened and said, “The cops did not say why they arrested him. Even his shoes taken away from him. We kept asking over and over again, “What’s wrong?”
He also said that some people were in dress and others, except for one, were wearing masks. “They all had TT pistols in their hands,” said Wajahat.
The Model Colony Police Station has made a report about how Anjum went missing.
The chief superintendent of police in Korangi said that his team didn’t know anything about Zubair Anjum’s arrest. He also said that no police station or unit has said that the journalist was taken into custody.
“Police from the Korangi area have not taken Anjum into custody. “We are looking into what happened,” he said, adding that Anjum’s brother was being asked for more information.
