Karachi: Sindh Labour and Human Resources Minister Saeed Ghani has offered mediation between PPP and JI. It is in the Karachi mayor’s appointment if JI’s candidate, Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman, agrees to become deputy mayor.
Ghani made the suggestion during a Karachi media interview. The minister offered to earnestly urge his party’s high leadership if Naeem accepts the role. He stressed that PPP wanted to administer Karachi’s issues with all political parties that had won local government elections.
After the LG elections, PPP is the largest party in the 367-member assembly with 155 members, including reserved seats.
No party has 179 votes in the house, the number needed to determine the port city’s mayor. The PPP, PML-N, and JUI-F have 175, according to the latest figures.
The JI came in second with 130 seats, including reserved seats, while the PTI won 63. 193 parties allied.
The alliance has enough votes to win the seat, but the PPP has been saying that a “jiyala” will rule Karachi this time and has nominated unelected Murtaza Wahab for mayor.
June 15 marks Karachi’s mayoral election
On Saturday, Ghani told journalists that Naeem, JI’s Karachi emir, has begun conceding the next mayoral race after realizing he doesn’t have public support.
He stated he had disclosed before the May 9 violence that the newly elected PTI local government representatives had notified their party leadership that they wouldn’t vote for the JI’s mayoral candidate.
PPP’s Karachi president asked Naeem how many freshly elected local government delegates from his party and the PTI attended the reception at Idara Noor-e-Haq.
Naeem had to cancel the reception. It was because only a few PTI UC chairmen had arrived after receiving the invitation.
The labour minister said he couldn’t do anything if the JI’s Karachi head claimed that a freshly elected PTI UC chairman had abducted after refusing to vote for the JI’s mayoral candidate.
He told journalists that the government to produce PTI’s UC chairmen who had imprisoned after FIRs filed against them for the mayoral election. But it couldn’t force them to vote for the JI’s candidate.
He said that the PPP had agreed on a Karachi mayoral candidate. As well as that all claims to the contrary were untrue.
He predicted that PPP candidates for Karachi mayor and deputy mayor would win the next elections. It would due to the continued efforts of all prominent PPP leaders. He predicted June 15 would crush Naeem’s hopes.
