Islamabad: It was announced by the Islamabad police that two suspects who were allegedly involved in the rape case at F9 park were killed in an exchange of fire with police officers at a snap checking point in the federal capital of Pakistan. Thursday, an unexpected checkpoint the police had set up in Sector D-12 of Islamabad was the day on which the incident took place, as stated by a spokesperson for the police force. When the two suspects, who have been identified as Nawab Ali and Iqbal, reportedly saw the check post, they opened fire on the police officers. The attackers were hit with retaliatory fire, which led to their capture by the police. They also sustained injuries. Unfortunately, however, they passed away after being transported to the hospital where they were receiving treatment.

The police also disclosed that both of the suspects were wanted for questioning in connection with multiple cases of petty theft and that over sixty cases had been opened against them. One of them was wanted for murder in connection with a robbery that took place, and the other two were wanted in connection with a separate homicide. On the other hand, the police officers who were involved in the exchange of fire were not injured as a result of the safety measures that were in place.

The Islamabad police had stated a day earlier that they had located the suspects in the rape case that occurred in F-9 park, but they had not yet made any arrests at the time of their announcement. In order to identify and apprehend the criminals responsible for the crimes, they set up surprise checkpoints in various parts of the city. People were asked by the police to avoid making any assumptions or speculations about the case that is currently being investigated and to report to the authorities if they had any information regarding the suspects.

The unfortunate event that took place on February 2 was discussed in detail by the Inspector-General of the Islamabad Police, Akbar Nasir Khan, during his briefing on Tuesday before the Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights. The Inspector General of the Islamabad Police has disclosed that two armed men are suspected of having raped a woman at gunpoint in Islamabad’s F-9 park. Two days later, the case was reported in the news, and the country was stunned by the audacity of the criminals who approached the victim and her colleague while they were in the park.

According to the first information report (FIR), the individuals who were responsible for the attack were armed and took the two victims at gunpoint to a nearby thicket in order to separate them. The attackers then beat the young woman up when she pleaded with them to let her go and even offered them money in exchange for her safety. The victim was beaten and threatened by the assailants when she tried to raise her voice, and they said they would call their “friends” to join them if she continued to speak out. Her attempts to escape were also thwarted by the assailants who pursued her.

According to the FIR, the alleged perpetrators returned “all our things and gave us Rs1,000 to stay quiet” as they were making their way into a nearby thicket. They also allegedly advised the victim that she should not be in the park at “this” time of the night. The event sparked a wave of outrage and protests across the country, with citizens demanding justice for the victim and prompt action against those who were responsible for the crime.
