Lahore: Soumia Asim, the wife of a civil judge, accused of torturing her teenage housekeeper. On Thursday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) gave her freedom.
After Asim’s request for anticipatory bail heard, Justice Farooq Haider granted her request until August 1. He told the police to stop putting her in jail.
Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police said this week that a case filed against the wife of Civil Judge Asim Hafeez. Its for allegedly torturing a 14-year-old girl who worked for her as a maid.
The horrifying case of the teenager brutally beaten came to light when the victim taken to a hospital in Lahore. She reached the hospital with major injuries. The victim’s family accused the judge’s wife, Somia, of torturing their child.
The girl’s father, Manga Khan, filed the case at Police Station Humak under Section 506 (committing illegal intimidation) and Section 342 (wrongfully confining a person), both of which are in the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
Asim said she was ready to help with the investigation into the accusations against her after she was arrested. In the meantime, the victim had 15 major wounds all over her body, most of which were on her head and face, according to the medical report.
The first medical report said, “Shes not given treatment for seven months, which made her wounds worse.”
The victim later moved from Sargodha to Lahore for better care, but doctors in both places were not very hopeful.
The federal capital cops have not been able to find the judge so that they can look into something. The cops went to places in Lahore and Gujranwala where the wife might have been hiding, but they were not able to find her.
