Webdesk: Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah took to Twitter to apologise to fans and say he was “devastated” that his team missed out on next year’s UEFA Champions League after Manchester United beat Chelsea 4-1 in the Premier League on Thursday.
Liverpool secured a Europa League spot after United’s win.
“I’m devastated. No excuse. We failed to qualify for the Champions League. Liverpool must compete. It’s too soon for a positive post. “We failed,” Salah tweeted.
The negative message offended some admirers.
Jurgen Klopp defended the 30-year-old.
Klopp said Salah’s reaction was “completely normal” at today’s press conference.
I don’t think that’s one of social media’s many terrible aspects.
“It’s normal and he’s right,” he added. He was happy in the canteen an hour ago.”
Klopp’s team will miss the Champions League for the first time since 2016/17, before Salah came.
Manchester returned to the Champions League after defeating Chelsea 4-1 on Thursday.

Chelsea, after spending over £500 million ($620 million), struggled again. Their eighth loss in ten games since Frank Lampard returned as interim manager. Inefficiency and poor results have left the club with little to play for.
