Webdesk: Matt Damon admitted his “dumbest” decision to reject down $2 billion-grossing Avatar.
James Cameron gave the Good Will Hunting actor 10% of the film’s box office proceeds for the lead part.
The actor regretted rejecting the $250 million deal.
“It’s the dumbest thing an actor ever did in the history of acting,” Damon told Entertainment Tonight in a joint interview with Zoe Saldana.
“I don’t think your career suffered because of it, trust me,” Saldana, the film’s star, said.
“Do you know what kind of movie that would’ve been if I had been in it?” Damon joked before praising Saldana’s $2 billion-plus blockbusters.
Trust me, it wasn’t planned. I’ve always felt grateful that I was chosen after auditioning hard. Not Matt Damon. “I can’t refuse Avatars,” Saldana joked.
“I’ve probably done 50 films,” Damon added. “I’ve never been in a billion-dollar movie.”
Damon made headlines at Cannes Film Festival 2021 when he confessed he declined the role of Jake Sully, which went to Sam Worthington.
Moreover, Damon said he would be remembered. “No actor ever refused more money.”
While, Cameron told BBC Radio, “He’s beating himself up over this.” Damon turned down the film.
“And I really think, ‘Matt you’re kind of like one of the biggest movie stars in the world, get over it.’ We couldn’t stop him from making another “Bourne” film on his runway. He regretted declining.
