MQM-P faces setback as Sindh govt removes its administrators

KARACHI: A big setback for Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) as the Sindh government on Wednesday removed administrators of Hyderabad and Karachi’s East and Korangi districts in compliance of orders of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The administrators of Hyderabad and Karachi’s east and Koranig districts were appointed over recommendations of MQM-P.

Muhammad Farooque, Syed Shakeel Ahmed and Muhammad Sharif had been serving as the administrators of Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and district municipal corporations of Korangi and East districts, respectively.

The ECP had written a letter to the local government secretary and directed it to impose ban on transfer, posting during the conduct of the local government (LG) polls. It had also directed the local government secretary to either withdraw or kept the orders in abeyance till disposal of the second phase of the local government elections in Karachi and Hyderabad divisions.

On other hand, the speculations are making rounds in the metropolis for the 7th time as the Sindh government recently wrote another letter to the ECP. The MQM-P had already sent a letter to the Election watchdog, asking it to amend the delimitation for the LG polls.

The new phase of the Sindh LG polls is scheduled for January 15 in Karachi Division after six months’ delay.
