LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Wednesday filed a writ petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) challengingElection Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) process to remove him from the chairmanship of the party.
Imran Khan filed the petition through his lawyer and submitted that the ECP crossed limits by by trying to remove him as PTI chairman.
He also submitted that the ECP had issued the notice “illegally”.
Khan asked the court to suspend the ECP notice and bar itfrom taking further action before the final verdict.
The petition came after the ECP issued notice regarding a process to remove Imran Khan as chairman of the PTI. The ECP last year in October had disqualified Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Toshakhana reference. The Election Watchdog last month had started proceedings to remove PTI chief Imran Khan from the chairmanship of the party after his disqualification in the Toshakhana reference.
The ECP in its verdict had held, “As per the statement of Imran Khan he had purchased the gifts from Toshakhana paying 21.564 million rupees while the Cabinet Division said that the gifts had a value of 107.943 million,”.
