Webdesk: In a huge surprise at the Women’s World Cup, Nigeria beat co-hosts Australia. It was 3-2 in a game that fans will never forget.

At first, it seemed like the home fans had a good reason to cheer when Emily van Egmond scored with a tap-in after a long pass just before halftime to put Australia ahead. But Nigeria had other ideas. They quickly answered with a goal from Uchenna Kanu. Who scored on a sloppy cross and gave Nigeria its first goal of the 2023 event.

In the second half, Osinachi Ohale’s close-range header and Asisat Oshoala’s finish from a tight angle helped Nigeria’s situation even more. With her goal, Oshoala also made history as the first African player to score in three Women’s World Cups. Even though Alanna Kennedy scored for Australia in extra time, it wasn’t enough to stop Nigeria’s big win, which put the Super Falcons on top of Group B.

Randy Waldrum, the head coach of Nigeria, very proud of his team’s success. He praised their belief and determination. The players’ dedication, toughness, and ability to stop Australia’s constant attempts in the last part of the game shown by the win.

Australia hurt by the loss, especially since star striker Sam Kerr couldn’t play because of a calf injury. To get into the last 16 of the Women’s World Cup, the team will have to get back together and try to win their last group game against Canada.
