organic food
Lahore (NNI) – Najam Mazari, head of the Institute for Research on Organic Food and Products, has demanded that the federal and provincial governments allocate government land for organic farming, saying that with effective policy-making at the government level and the involvement of the private sector, Pakistan can gain an important position in the field of organic agricultural exports. In his statement, he said that organic farming is not only environmentally friendly, but the demand for its products in the global markets is also increasing rapidly.
The federal and provincial governments should allocate special funds for the promotion of organic farming in the budget of the next fiscal year. In addition, farmers should be provided with modern training, facilities and financial assistance so that they can produce world-class organic products. Najam Mazari demanded that the federal government include organic food in the export list and that a system of certification and modern laboratories be established according to international standards so that Pakistani products can be introduced with confidence in the global markets. This step will not only create new employment opportunities and improve the agricultural economy but will also increase foreign exchange. Najam Mazari further said that organic farming zones should be established in every province to promote modern agricultural research and technology.
Special programs should be introduced to attract youth towards organic farming, this step will increase economic activities in rural areas and small farmers will also benefit directly. He said that if this project is implemented seriously, Pakistan can become an important center for organic food exports in the region.
