Renowned Writer and Poet Amjad Islam Amjad Dies at Age 78

Amjad Islam Amjad, a renowned drama writer and poet, passed away on Friday in Lahore due to sudden cardiac arrest at the age of 78. He was not suffering from any chronic disease. His funeral has not been announced yet, but his burial will take place in Lahore.

Upon hearing the news of the famous author’s death, prominent figures in Pakistan expressed their condolences and grief. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his deep sorrow, praying for Amjad’s soul to rest in peace and for him to be granted a high rank in heaven. He also sent his condolences to Amjad’s family and acknowledged his significant contributions to Pakistani literature through memorable TV dramas such as Waris, Fishar and Samandar.

Governor of Punjab, Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman, also expressed his grief and offered his condolences. He praised Amjad as Pakistan’s number one drama writer, known for his unique poetry. He prayed for Amjad’s family to be granted patience during this difficult time.

Caretaker Punjab Information Minister, Amir Mir, also offered his condolences, calling Amjad a historic literary personality. He acknowledged the gap that Amjad’s passing has left in the world of literature and prayed for him to be granted a high rank in heaven.

President Arif Alvi also took to Twitter to offer his condolences, while former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar and actor Imran Abbas spoke about the loss Urdu literature has suffered. Federal Minister for Energy Khurram Dastgir-Khan and former senator Farhatullah Babar also honored the great poet by posting tributes.

Amjad was the author of over 20 books, including Barzakh, Aks and Satwan Dar. He received several awards for his literary work, including the Pride of Performance and Sitara-e-Imtiaz. Amjad’s death has indeed deprived Pakistani literature of a great author and poet, but his literary contributions will be remembered for ages to come.
