KARACHI: A young woman has petitioned the Sindh High Court (SHC) to arrest the alleged killer of her father. Whom she identified on social media 15 years after the brutal murder.
Mahim Amjad petitioned the SHC that Syed Taqi Haider Shah declared a proclaimed offender by the sessions judge for Karachi’s South District in 2010, but law enforcement failed to arrest him and he fled the country.
Interpol did not receive the accused’s arrest data.
After a trial court application, the accused received a permanent arrest warrant on September 27, 2022. The subordinate court also blocked the accused’s passport.
Mahim requested that the FIA arrest the accused through Interpol, but the trial court did not grant this request.
The FIA did not attempt to arrest the accused, who renewed his identity card on November 7, 2022.
On November 24, 2022, the petitioner blocked the accused’s passport and ID. Mahim has asked FIA and police to extradite the accused from the UAE.
Mahim told the media that her father’s alleged killer arrested in the UAE 15 years after the murder. It is after she identified him on social media.
She said the accused arrested in Dubai.
After four months, Interpol released him. “Then I got him arrested from Sharjah,” she said, adding that the accused threatened to kill her in a video.
The Consulate, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Sindh Home Department have ignored the threat.
Mahim said she spoke with the Pakistani ambassador, but when the UAE authorities returned the suspect’s extradition documents as incomplete, the envoy and consulate did not inform her.
