Lucknow/Kathmandu:
Severe storms, heavy rainfall, and lightning have claimed more than 100 lives across parts of India and Nepal since Wednesday.
The Indian state of Bihar has reported 64 deaths, while over 20 people have died in Uttar Pradesh, the country’s most populous state. In Nepal, at least 8 fatalities have been confirmed due to similar weather conditions.
India’s Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of more rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds in the eastern and central regions over the coming days.
Experts say this extreme weather follows an unusually hot April, with record-breaking temperatures in many areas. In Nepal, authorities fear the casualty and damage figures may rise.
While monsoon typically begins in June for southern India, this year’s weather patterns have been unexpected and intense, signaling climate anomalies at play.
