Webdesk: For the second year, Ramadan-observant Muslims in the US broke their fast and prayed Taraweeh at Times Square.
Muslim social media influencer SQ organised the weekend event alongside Muslims Giving Back and Droplets of Mercy.
Dahlia Tarek, who went with family and friends, underlined the need of having a welcoming space for Islam inquiries.
“It’s astonishing that it’s happening in the (busiest) part of the city,” Tarek told National News.
“I hope it continues every year because it’s nice and the population keeps growing.”
Afterward, The Holy Quran reciters Faisal Latif and Faraj Hasan led Maghrib prayers and served free iftar meals.
Moreover, Muslims Giving Back delivered over 2,000 meals of dates, water, pizza, and gyros with food sponsors. The footage shows several people praying at Taraweeh.
While, The event’s MC, Muhammad Abdul-Aleem (HoopFinesse), and guest speaker Faduma Mohamed (speakpure), a blogger and social media personality, gave encouraging speeches.
The programme showed non-Muslim New Yorkers Ramadan.
SQ called Islam one of the most misunderstood religions and said Islamophobia was rising.
He said the meeting allowed Muslims to unify and teach others about Islam. New York’s most famous square’s neon lights and ads hosted it.
Yamina Kezadri of Muslims Giving Back called the event “dawah by action,” or preaching Islam.
She stated dawah was more than handing out leaflets.
Moreover, The Jamil Foundation for Children and Youth provided readings, educational tools, and free English and Spanish Qurans. They answered questions.
Two people joined Islam after hearing the Quran, National News said.
