Webdesk: The Bombay High Court dismissed the first information report (FIR) against Ramnagesh Akubathini, a software engineer arrested for allegedly threatening the daughter of former India skipper Virat Kohli, at Kohli’s manager’s request.
After India lost the 2021 T20 World Cup to Pakistan, engineer Akubathini arrested for threatening one-year-old Vamika Kohli.
Aquillia D’Souza, Kohli’s manager, requested it based on Akubathini’s April 5 letter.
He wrote that Kohli and Anushka Sharma believed the request sincere. They had asked D’Souza for a “no-objection” to quashing the FIR.
A BHC division bench granted Akubathini’s criminal application.
Akubathini sought that the FIR be annulled earlier this year since the criminal proceedings would damage his career and prevent him from studying overseas.
The petition further said that there is no proof that Akubathini’s IP address sent the tweets.
The magistrate granted him bail on November 21, 2021, since the tweets did not target the batsman or his family.
The plea said he was interning with reputable groups and had no criminal background.
The Bandra magistrate court remanded Akubathini to police custody till November 16 and thereafter to judicial prison.
