Tornadoes kill 10 in Balochistan

QUETTA: An eight-member family was among 10 persons washed away by a stream after heavy rain in Balochistan’s Awaran and Zhob areas, officials said Saturday.

Flash flooding in seasonal streams occurred in Khuzdar and Awaran areas after severe rains began Friday evening.

While, Officials said the eight-person family—three women, two children, and three men—was driving from Awaran to Kalat.

Afterward, Levies and Awaran administration officers raced to find the remains. “Levies have found seven bodies and brought them to a nearby hospital,” Awaran constable Jummadad Khan informed Dawn over the phone. One body remains.

The Kalat family from Surab was returning home when the tragedy occurred. “The administration has sent seven of eight bodies to their native town (Surab) by ambulances,” he said.

Azizullah, 38, Munir Ahmed, 37, Ayesha Bibi, 40, and Noorzadi, 18, died.

Museer Ahmed, 7, Seema Bibi, 17, Babiba Bibi, 9. Unfortunately, Mohsin’s body was missing.

Two Zhob residents were also the victims of the tragedy.

Moreover, Muhammad Shafiq, 60, was located in Sombaza, near the Pak-Afghan border, while Masood Khan, 16, was still missing.

Now situation is under control after severe rains in Zhob, Kalat, Nushki, Dalbandin, Ziarat, Harnai, Duki, Qila Saifullah, Chaman, Loralai, Awaran, Mashkey, Uthal, and Quetta.
