Xinjiang, China: A tragic accident occurred in the scenic Xiata Valley of northwestern China when a suspension bridge suddenly collapsed, killing five people and injuring 24 others. The incident took place as tourists were crossing the bridge, which tilted and gave way after one of its main cables reportedly snapped.
Footage circulating on social media shows the bridge heavily tilted to one side, with handrails hanging loosely and parts of the structure dangling over the river. Emergency rescue teams arrived promptly to begin search and rescue operations.
According to Chinese state media, the Xiata tourist area has been temporarily closed, and an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the collapse. Preliminary findings suggest a lack of maintenance and safety checks, which may have contributed to the disaster.
In response, China’s central government has dispatched a high-level investigation team to the site to assess the damage and ensure proper medical treatment for the injured.
Xiata Valley is well-known for its picturesque views, alpine landscapes, ancient trails, and archaeological sites. This incident, however, raises serious concerns about tourist safety and infrastructure oversight in the region.
