Israeli Tank Carried Out the Attack on UN Compound in Deir al-Balah, Says Stéphane Dujarric
New York (International Desk) – The United Nations has officially held Israel responsible for the recent attack on its headquarters in Gaza. Last week, an alleged Israeli strike on the UN headquarters in Deir al-Balah resulted in the death of a foreign UN staff member and left five others critically injured.
The Israeli military had initially denied targeting any UN facility in Deir al-Balah, stating that media organizations should act responsibly and refrain from relying on unverified reports. However, the United Nations has now formally attributed the attack to Israel.
According to Arab media, the UN has confirmed that the attack on its headquarters in Gaza, which led to the death of a staff member and injured several others, was carried out by an Israeli tank.
Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, stated that based on available information, the attacks targeting the UN compound in Deir al-Balah on March 19 were conducted by an Israeli tank.
This statement comes at a time when the United Nations has decided to temporarily reduce its foreign staff in the Palestinian territories.
