Webdesk: On Saturday, Mohamed Salah scored his 100th career goal at Anfield and his ninth consecutive home goal in a 1-0 win over Brentford, keeping Liverpool’s top-four aspirations alive.

Salah’s goal also tied Steven Gerrard for fifth position in Liverpool’s all-time scoring record. His third consecutive season with 30 goals in all competitions is extraordinary. Liverpool trails fourth-place Manchester United by one point with two games in hand.

Jurgen Klopp agreed that Manchester United are still favourites to finish above Liverpool.

Klopp called Salah a “all-time great” and praised his closing down and scoring abilities. Liverpool’s six consecutive league wins have made Klopp’s coaching “a joy again.”

Liverpool fans booed the UK national song, “God Save the King,” after their win. Liverpool claimed they will play the anthem before the game, but “some supporters have strong views” about it.

The home crowd chanted “Liverpool” over the booing.

Salah’s 13th-minute goal showed Liverpool’s improved teamwork despite the issue. Brentford’s Darwin Nunez missed a chance, while Ivan Toney’s 30-yard free-kick was wide. Offside denied Bryan Mbeumo’s equaliser.

Liverpool had won 122 Premier League matches when leading at halftime, and they nervously held on in the second half.

Liverpool’s next match against Manchester United at Old Trafford might decide the top four. Klopp said they must keep the teams behind them at bay, but “nothing is decided and that’s good.”

Liverpool fans will hope Salah keeps scoring and they can qualify for the Champions League next season.
