KARACHI: Pakistan’s Hamza Amin, married to actor Ushna Shah, won the Austrian National Open Golf Championship in Oberwaltersdorf, Austria, overcoming the elements and European Tour champion Martin Wiegele.
Hamza’s father, Taimur Hassan, bagged him as he birdied his way to a two-stroke win on Monday.
Hamza, representing Rumanza Golf Club, won by two strokes on Sunday with a great back nine, birdieing holes 11, 13, 15, and 17 in difficult conditions.
“Winning the Open again with my father on the bag is incredible. We made history. I played well but had a bad third round.
“It was very windy and difficult.” I birdied the 18th on Saturday to stay 2 back.
That birdie gave me confidence going into the final round. I kept going even though the putter was chilly. “I started holing putts and making birdies,” he told The News.
Pakistan’s best amateur golfer, Taimur, was thrilled.
“Caddying for Hamza and helping him win was great. “Father-son joy,” he stated.
