Webdesk: Pakistan’s best javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem grabbed the final slot at the World Athletics Championship in Budapest on Friday.
Nadeem also qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The top javelin thrower saved his best for last, throwing 86.79 metres.
The Olympic standard was 85.50m, which Nadeem cleared.
Nadeem started rusty, reaching 70.63m on his first try. His second try, an 81.53m throw, got him back in the running.
The final was automatically qualified with an 83m mark or top 12.
The javelin throw final is on Sunday, August 27.
Nadeem became famous after finishing fifth in the Tokyo Olympics, changing his life. It made him famous, wealthy, and changed him.
Nadeem afterwards placed fifth in the US World Championship last year. After that, he set a Commonwealth Games record with a 90.18-meter throw in Birmingham.
He had elbow and left knee surgery in London, rehabbed, and returned to competition at the 34th National Games in Quetta in May.
His department WAPDA won a gold despite his lack of fitness. In this event, he damaged his right knee, forcing him to miss the recent Asian Championship in Bangkok.
On Friday, India’s Neeraj Chopra qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024 with a season-best 88.77m throw in his first try at the World Athletics Championship qualifying round.
