A deadly Israeli strike in northern Gaza killed at least 115 Palestinians who were waiting for UN food aid trucks, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. The attack, which took place on Sunday, is being described as one of the deadliest assaults on civilians seeking humanitarian assistance in recent weeks.
In addition, six more Palestinians were killed in southern Gaza in a separate attack near another aid distribution site. Overall, 88 Palestinians were killed across Gaza on Sunday due to Israeli airstrikes and gunfire.
Israeli aircraft also targeted three homes in Deir al-Balah, displacing hundreds of already struggling families.
Gaza is facing a catastrophic food shortage, with famine-like conditions emerging due to aid restrictions. According to the Health Ministry, 71 children have already died due to malnutrition, and over 60,000 children are suffering from severe hunger. In the last 24 hours alone, 18 people died from starvation.
The UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) stated it has food supplies for three months, but Israel continues to block the entry of aid into Gaza.
Following an Israeli strike on a Catholic church sheltering hundreds of displaced civilians, Pope Leo XIV condemned the assault, calling the war an act of “barbarity” and urgently appealed for a ceasefire.
“I call for an immediate end to this barbaric war and a path toward peaceful resolution,” he stated.
