Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) gave Islamabad Inspector General (IG) Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan a show-cause notice for contempt of court on Monday. This was because of the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Parvez Elahi last week under 3-MPO (Maintenance of Public Order).
The LHC told the head of the police in Islamabad to come to court on September 8.
The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police caught the PTI president again under 3-MPO not long after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) let him go. The experienced politician then put under house arrest in Adiala jail for the next 15 days. Even though the LHC had put a stop to his arrest, the ICT police took him into custody again.
Later, the former chief minister of Punjab went to the LHC to ask that the Islamabad IG charged with contempt.
In response to the plea, the Lahore High Court told the IG of Islamabad to come to court on September 8.
At the start of today’s hearing, the Punjab IG told the court that the former province chief executive had been taken into custody by the Islamabad police after being released by the NAB. He also said that the registrar had been given a report about this. He also said that no police officer from Punjab had stopped the police in Islamabad from arresting Elahi.
