ISTANBUL: An earthquake that struck southeast Turkey on Monday left one person dead, 69 people injured, and some buildings collapsed, according to Turkish authorities.

It occurred three weeks after a huge earthquake in Turkey and Syria that claimed more than 50,000 lives.

Search and rescue teams had been sent to five buildings, according to Yunus Sezer, head of Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), who was speaking at a news conference.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre estimated the magnitude of the earthquake, which shook the province of Malatya in southeast Turkey, to be 5.2. It was 5.6 according to AFAD.

According to EMSC, it struck at a depth of 5 km (3 miles).

According to media reports, two people are thought to be trapped in one building’s rubble.

According to a minister, investigations into the building collapses caused by this month’s earthquakes in Turkey have resulted in the arrest of 184 suspects, with more being sought.
