Lahore: During the current year, there is a possibility of a 9% wheat shortfall in Pakistan. According to the authorities, Pakistan’s requirement of wheat is is 30 million tons. Whereas, the expected production will be 26 million tons. Meanwhile authorities claims to have one million tons available in stock. Pakistan will face a shortfall of 3 million tons of wheat this year.
According to the Ministry of Food Security, the reason for the shortfall is the target of 1.5 million acres of reduced cultivation. The government has set a target of 6.7 million tons of official procurement, with Punjab purchasing 3.5 million tons and the Sindh government buying 1.4 million tons. The Ministry of Food Security has a target of purchasing 1.8 million tons of wheat.
